You know there’s a paraphilia for everything, right? This woman is cashing in on people who think it’s hot to watch a woman eat.
And she’s not the only one. Gastronomic voyeurism is the latest fad in South Korea, according to this report. Around 3,000 people are doing it, some sponsored by restaurants. Park Seo-yeon broadcasts herself eating in her apartment for up to three hours every day, and makes more than $9,000 U.S. a month doing it.
I imagine a lot of people’s first thought here is “Nice work if you can get it,” (like this guy) but, in real life, I think this would be horrible. I don’t want to eat for three hours a day. Do you? Blech. Also, it’s kind of amazing that she’s not fatter.
Park says, “People enjoy the vicarious pleasure with my online show when they can’t eat that much, or don’t want to eat food at night, or are on a diet.”
Whatever you need to tell yourself, Doodlebug. But I don’t think that’s why they’re watching you. For the most part. The narrator says, “Some say it makes eating alone feel less awkward.” Must be a cultural thing. I have no awkwardness with eating along.
