Bert & Ernie record TomTom GPS voiceover (behind the scenes footage)
Posted: November 15, 2011 Filed under: Entertainment, pop culture, Random Stuff Leave a comment »I don’t drive but if I did I would want this as my GPS, even if Bert & Ernie sound crazy different from how they did when I was a kid. Apparently TomTom, which already has stars like Ozzy doing navigational voiceovers, is launching a Sesame Street line. Here’s a behind-the-scenes video of the recording session.
Darth Vader recorded his nav in 2010. (But the guy doesn’t sound like James Earl Jones. I don’t think it’s James Earl Jones….Update! It’s not him. Lorraine Muller of Montreal band Les Handclaps, sent me this link, so we know who it’s not, but not who it is. Onward… )
Mindblowing breakdance

This video makes me feel old and fat and inflexible and heavy and…other stuff…uncool, maybe. Kinda makes you feel like you need to cut down on the sandwiches and do some stretching, huh?
The director’s name is Alex Yde and he is from Bretagne, France. He’s got a Vimeo channel here.

Guy makes music with 1000 pairs of jeans
Posted: November 13, 2011 Filed under: Entertainment, fashion, music, Uncategorized Leave a comment »I think this is the coolest jeans ad you will see all day. If you have seen a cooler jeans ad today, please share it with me, as I would like very much to see it.
It’s like Stomp but with one dude and 1000 pairs of pants.
The guy who is making this music on 1000 pairs of jeans is named Andrew Huang, and, as I just discovered, he will create songs based on people’s ideas. His YouTube channel songstowearpantsto is pretty funny. He also has very interesting eyebrows.

Mongolian throat singer performs supercool version of Waltzing Matilda
Posted: November 11, 2011 Filed under: Entertainment, music, pop culture, Random Stuff Leave a comment »Tom Waits did a version of this song.
It’s Waltzing Matilda, performed by a Mongolian throat singer, though really, it should be called “overtone” singing, as throat singing applies to an Inuit form of singing, which is performed differently, while overtone singing is done in places all over Asia and Europe and has a broader range of styles.
This is crazy awesome, and now I really want to learn how to overtone sing. But I know that if I wait, like, an hour (please, who am I kidding? Seven minutes), the desire will pass and I’ll want a sandwich or something instead. Really, one should be content to watch this guy Bukhchuluun Ganburged singing for ABC National Radio. His website is Horsefiddle.com
Nutliquor? I hardly even knew her. Hahahahahahaaaaaa!
Posted: November 10, 2011 Filed under: Random Stuff Leave a comment »So, this made my day, until I realized it will probably be a long time until we can get it in Canada. This is Nutliquor, which is obviously the best name ever, and it is peanut butter flavoured Vodka. The website says “Drinking nutliquor is like drinking the center of a peanut butter cup. Peanut butter, smell, creamy texture, a little warmth going down, and a lingering peanut butter cup aftertaste. Delicious!”
It also says “Nutliquor contains no peanut allergies” – I think they mean allergens? – “and was created to be enjoyed neat.”

New Die Antwoord video!
Posted: November 8, 2011 Filed under: Entertainment, music, pop culture Leave a comment »Here is a new Die Antwoord video. It’s no Enter the Ninja but it could grow on me, maybe. Apparently, they’ve just split from their label Interscope and are releasing their next album independently. This is probably smart, since the hype pretty much poofed off into the ether somewhere between the Ninja video release, the world tour and the debut album drop.
The video is for the single “Fok Julle Naaiers,” and you should not watch if you’re freaked out by creepy crawly things. Yo-Landi told Boing Boing (via Spin) this track is special because “It features the first rap verse by the real DJ HI-TEK, our gay deejay, who haz just bust out da closet wif a muddafuckn vengeance!”

Six guys live in a tiny capsule for 520 days, don’t kill each other
Posted: November 7, 2011 Filed under: pop culture, Random Stuff, Uncategorized Leave a comment »Two days before these guys emerged from their capsule, I learned of them for the first time in a Wired mag article.
The Mars500 mission saw six volunteer astronauts go into isolation on a simulated space mission (at first I accidentally typed that as “stimulated” space mission, which would maybe be a little different…). They spent 520 days in a capsule the size of a bus, just outside of Moscow, completely cut off from the outside world, as part of an experiment to see how people will really deal with the long trip to Mars, when we eventually go.
The crew ate nothing but canned food, showered once a week and was subjected to rigorous testing. There was a LOT of peeing into containers. They didn’t kill each other, apparently, though it seems quite possible that psychological effects will become apparent in the coming months. See them emerge from the capsule on Saturday, November 5, and read more about the mission here.
Below is their video diary at the one year mark.
